Vasile Popa - Paintings, graphics
Vasile Popa was born on July 20, 1957 in Ungureni-
Mănești village, Dâmbovița County. He attended
the Art School in Târgoviște, guided by the professor
Marin Petre Constantin. He then graduated from
the Academy of Fine and Decorative Arts in
Bucharest, having as professors Ion Bitzan, Vasile
Chinski, Ion Salișteanu and Dan Cristian Popescu,
Both as a student and afterwords, he showed
great interest in artistic anatomy, perspective and
the techniques of oil painting. He is also attracted
by the urban landscape, which dominates his
painting. He paints in nature, which makes his
work more
credible.
For his work he acquires the best colors, oils
and pigments, with a preference for colors OLD
HOLLAND and old Romanian colors. However, he
often uses his own expertise in the preparation of
colors, media and paint oils, because the painter
believes that certain performances can not be
obtained without adequate material. He is thrilled
when he succeeds in making pictorial matter
thats help him achieve a work as he wished. It
is noteworthy that, after many experiences and
having read old painting treaties, he managed to
rediscover the formula of the old Romanian
colors.
He is part of a family of artists, both his wife and
son being
painters.
He reads a lot, likes to comment on what he has
read and has a tendency to pass on his knowledge
to others. He consults old painting treatises,
history of arts and styles, books you can find in his
library along with contemporary
ones.
of the "market", he has a healthy dose of
selfcriticism
and believes that the painter's mission is
to continuously work and avoid wasting his energy
in other endeavours.
